Social Psychologist
Assistant Professor of Psychological Sciences
University of Connecticut
University at Buffalo (starting Fall 2024)

My research focuses on lay theories of prejudice—theories everyday people have about the ways prejudice operates in society—, prejudice confrontations, and allyship claims. By examining basic and applied questions about how people perceive, experience, and combat prejudice in their day to day lives, my research aims to broaden our understanding of prejudice and stigma, especially as it relates to cognitive, health, and behavioral outcomes.

My research draws upon my interdisciplinary background in feminist theory, traditional social psychology, and vision science to better understand how marginalized group members perceive and experience their social worlds, and connects these perceptions and experiences to intergroup health inequalities. My work engages metascientific discourses – including feminist philosophies of science and the open science movement – with the goal of improving the capacity of academic research to meaningfully represent the experiences of marginalized group members.

My name is Duc Pham. I grew up in Saigon, Vietnam, and am currently a 3rd year PhD student at UConn. My work focuses on discrimination, activism, and allyship, as well as their implications for well-being and social justice efforts. I aim to examine these questions via strength-based, intersectional, and cultural lenses, in order to fully represent and improve the lived experiences of various marginalized groups. In my free time, I like to spend time in nature, replicate my Grandma’s recipes, go to cute cafes and gardens (to write, read, and people-watch), and conduct my own creative projects.
